Why we can afford to donate our creative time

When we think about giving to charity, we usually think about money. But for a lot of us in the creative industry, spare cash can feel… well, a little too spare.
Here’s the thing though: we already have something incredibly valuable to give - and it’s not sitting in our bank accounts. It’s in our brains, our hard drives, our cameras, our Canva files.
Our time, our ideas, our creative skills are worth a lot.
Think about it:
An hour of your design time might be worth $150 to a client.
A day of content creation could be the difference between a charity’s campaign reaching 200 people or 20,000 people.
A short video you film might inspire someone to donate, volunteer, or completely change their perspective.
When you give your time and skills, you’re giving something that money alone can’t always buy - creativity with heart, made for a cause you care about.
And unlike our bank balances, our ability to create doesn’t run out at the end of the month. We can always carve out a little time for work that matters.
The best part? Giving your creative time often gives back to you too. It can refresh your portfolio, connect you with new people, and remind you why you fell in love with your craft in the first place.
So yes, we can afford to give. We might not always have the spare cash - but we can share the thing we’ve spent years honing: our creative magic.
Because for the charities we help, that magic could be priceless.
